Marie-Antoinette — Quel Beau Jour

World premiere

This is an initial recording and renewed performance of the music that Queen Marie-Antoinette played and sang at the French court at Versailles.

This production was commissioned by ING and has its origin in the character Marie-Antoinette, her music and the Versailles Zeitgeist.

Michaël Pas doesn’t just describe Marie-Antoinette’s life, he also takes you on a journey through atmospheres and emotions that truly bring to life her era. Soprano Anne Cambier and harpist Ann Fierens perform the music that Marie-Antoinette played and sang herself. All compositions are dedicated to her.

Especially for this production, goldsmith Ann Dierckx has designed jewellery inspired by the style of Marie-Antoinette’s era. Floral designer Lies Martens’s creations really represent the contemporary Zeitgeist.

The show was directed by Carl Ridders, who unfortunately has passed away recently and to whom we would like to dedicate the production.
